Dial-a-Ride

 
  The Dial-a-Ride (DAR) program provides reliable and affordable transportation to Carson residents, who are at least 60 years old, or who are disabled adults 18 years of age or older. The service is available 24 hours a day; seven days a week, including holidays. The service is provided by taxicabs and two lift-equipped minivans.
 
  Eligible users must register ANNUALLY by providing proof of residency and age.
To become a Dial-A-Ride user, you must provide the following:
  • A current California Driver's License OR Identification card from the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV)

    AND

  • A current utility bill OR bank statement with your name and address on it. Make sure that your bill or statement is dated within two months of your application date. The addresses on DMV ID and your utility bill or bank statement must be SAME address. If you are married, only one name needs to be on the bill. Property bills are unacceptable.
TO APPLY: Visit the Transportation Services Division office. Applications are processed during business hours. Once your application is processed and card is printed, it will be mailed to you.
   
DISABLED CLIENTS
Individuals with a physical, mobility, hearing or vision impairment are summarily approved to use the DAR program. However, individuals with disabilities that are under 60 years old must first undergo a medical evaluation by ACCESS SERVICES, INC (ASI) before being approved as a DAR client. To obtain an Access Services application by mail, please call (800) 827-0829.
   
PAYMENTS INFORMATION/OPTIONS
Upon acceptance of your application, you will receive a swipe card within 20 days of submitting your application. Users can purchase trips at $2.00 per trip by cash, check, and credit cards. Payments can be made in person in the Transportation office, online or by simply completing the mail order form and sending it to the address below. We accept check, MasterCard, Visa, AMEX, or Discover. The Transportation office now also accepts cash.

If you order by mail, be sure to include your DMV license or ID number, expiration date and phone number on your check and order form.

Allow for 24 hours before your purchase is available to use on your card.

Trip purchases are NON-REFUNDABLE. NO EXCEPTIONS.
WAIVERS
For those undergoing life-preserving treatments, please contact Transportation Services to inquire about waiver.
   
SERVICE AREA
Eligible residents can travel within the city limits for any purpose including banking, shopping, recreational, social, educational and/or medical. Many participants use the service to go to the South Bay Pavilion as well as attend social and recreational events at the Congresswoman Juanita Millender-McDonald Community Center.

Travel outside the city is limited to medical appointments in Gardena, Harbor City, Lomita, Long Beach, San Pedro and Torrance. The DAR map indicates the service area and lists the 17 satellite points outside the City where participants can travel to and from.
**SERVICE AREA CLARIFICATIONS**
Extended boundaries: Indicated in YELLOW. The area within the streets of Del Amo Blvd (North), Atlantic Blvd (East), Pacific Coast Highway (South) and Hawthorne Blvd (West) can be used for Medical appointments and certain Social Services appointments only.
