  CSCA HISTORY

The Carson Sister Cities Association traces its origin to 1972, when Carson’s first sister city affiliation with Sinait, Philippines was established. Since that time, three other affiliations were established, including Soka, Japan in 1979; Oyoko, Ghana in 1980 and Robertsport, Liberia in 1985. However, because of inactivity and/or political crisis, the Carson City Council officially severed affiliations with Sinait, Oyoko and Robertsport in 1993. Since then, the City has formed affiliations with Wanju-gun County, Korea in 1997, and La Carlota, Philippines in 1998.

Originally known as the Carson Sister City Committee, a named change was adopted in 1988 to reflect the organization’s growth and reflect its expanding role to involve all segments of the community.

In addition, CSCA is a member of Sister Cities International (SCI), a tax-exempt, non-profit organization incorporated in the District of Colombia in 1967. SCI provides a mechanism for U.S. cities to enter into city affiliations by assisting them in the process of linking with a city in another country. It acts as a coordinator and catalyst to encourage various types of sister cities activities and serves as a clearinghouse to gather, analyze and share information, knowledge and technology.
